How much time is needed to reissue Indian passport?For change of address what supporting document is required?

I want to reissue my wife's passport. It was issued from Kolkata and valid till April 2009.We have shifted to Mumbai.I want to reissue it from Mumbai. I also want to change address while reissue.As I stay outside India(my wife stays in Mumbai) I want to reissue it as early as possible during my next visit to Mumbai on short vacation(20 days in August, 2008).How much time is needed to reissue Indian passport?For change of address what supporting document is required?
GO to any good passport agent (there are 100s of, you will find address in yellow pages).

They will charge some fees 1000 to 2000 and you will get endorsment your wife passport within 7 days in tatkal service .

They will endorse your NEW address in same passport.

If you want to issue complete new passport then its not easily possible,you have to selinder/cancell old passport and you need to get enroll in Voter list of mumbai, and bring NOC from kolkata election registrar that her name is removed from there.

They will issue new passport, with new number and mention your old passport number in that.

whenever your wife will file her visa application, she has to fill detail of her old passport everywhere.

it sugessted that with two utility bills and a letter from local mumbai ward member go to mumbai passport office and ask them to endorsed your new address in same passport .How much time is needed to reissue Indian passport?For change of address what supporting document is required?
To the best of my knowledge it is better you wait till march 2009 and then submit for the renewal. It may be difficult to issue a passport during your visit and you have to get notary signed stamp paper with vailid address proof with gazetted officer to certify the residential address. At least by applying during march the address proof may be sufficient as it passes more than six months. I think you don't be reqd., as your wife can go to post office and apply directly So forget you worries as passport is the easiest way to get thro post office and no bribe etc., reqd., and at the same time you may have to wait to get the new passport at least for another four months from march 2009.
